Extreme Greenland

23 Days

Northeast Greenland is one of the most remote and isolated regions in the world.  In summer the lush tundra supports herds of musk oxen and shore landings offer excellent hiking and photographic opportunities. This unusual voyage embarks in Longyearbyen, crosses to Greenland and runs the length of its east coast before disembarkation at Kangerlussuaq. Highlights include an attempted landing at rarely visited Cape Morris Jesup, the most northerly point in Greenland. Several days will be spent in Northeast Greenland’s National Park including Station Nord, a military and scientific station; Danmarks Havn, a small weather station operated by eight hardy souls and Daneborg, the headquarters of the Sirius Patrol. We will continue to Ittoqqortoormiit, East Greenland’s most northerly community, and sail deeper into Scoresby Sund. Further down the coast we dip beneath the Arctic Circle and attempt a landing at Ammassalik. Rounding the southern tip of Greenland, we cruise north along the dramatic west coast to end a fascinating voyage.
