Arctic Norway - Driving Your Own Dogs, 2008"The King's Way" - Across Sweden and Norway Imagine the exhilaration of driving your own team. Getting to know your friendly dogs is one of the delights of the experience! These expeditions in the mountains of northern Norway, inland from Tromsø, have been organised and led by Odd-Knut Thoresen for over 12 years. They allow you to experience the excitement of standing on the runners of your sledge and driving your own team of dogs. Very little tuition is needed - the dogs know what they are doing! |
Driving Your Own DogsThis is a good time for dog-sledging. In early spring the days are rapidly lengthening in Arctic Norway and the rays of the low sun in the early evening produce some beautiful colours on the snow-covered mountains. Our base is a cabin near Odd-Knut's home and kennels and, snow conditions and weather permitting, we make short, and not too taxing, dog-sledging trips through beautiful snowscapes, returning each night to our warm home. Price: £1240

Driving Your Own DogsOur journey follows a Sami (Lapp) centuries-old winter route across a plateau dotted with frozen lakes and views of birch and pine forests on the hills. The temperatures are truly polar but we spend the nights in heated chalets. The ten-day trip may spend Day 9 watching the start of the Finnmark 1,000 kilometre dog-sledge race. Price: £1960
