DOG-SLEDGING AND SKIING, 2008

"A kind of purification, where the beauty and simplicity of your journey makes you feel totally in unity with Nature".

Eigil Knuth, the Danish explorer, describing the experience of dog-sledging.

In spring the best way to experience the true spirit of the Arctic is to travel by dog-sledge. During the day, the sun is low on the horizon and the snow-covered landscape is coloured pink. At night, spectacular displays of the Aurora Borealis light the cloudless sky. The silence is broken only by the hiss of the sledge runners and the panting and the padding of the dogs.

Our programme of dog-sledging offers a variety of destinations and tours that should suit all degrees of fitness and interests. Kamchatka and Greenland offer the opportunity to travel with native people. In Norway we drive our own dog teams. See also our programme of cross-country skiing supported by dog sledge. Dog-sledding, dog-sledging, dog-driving or mushing there is no consensus as to how to describe travelling with a dog team. However, our unrivalled experience will ensure that whatever you call it we can provide a suitable expedition.

Groups are very small - maximum 8. Temperatures drop to -10º C, perhaps -15ºC, by day. We advise on suitable clothing and equipment, and can supply some items.
