The Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetland IslandsThese voyages will concentrate on seeing as much as possible of the wildlife and scenery of the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Embark in Ushuaia and sail across the Drake Passage. These extended voyages follow the itinerary of Classic Antarctica but continue farther south to Stonington Island, which is the site of pioneering American and British bases in the 1940s and 1950s. Falkland Islands, South Georgia, The Antarctic PeninsulaEmbark in Puerto Madryn, or Ushuaia and sail across the Drake Passage. In the Falkland Islands visit Stanley, New and Carcass Islands. In South Georgia visit Grytviken, with its museum and the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton. Other landings may include Gold Harbour, St. Andrews Bay, Bay of Isles (Salisbury Plain and Prion Island). Near the Antarctic Peninsula land on Paulet Island at the hut built by Nordenskjöld's expedition followed by Hope Bay on the Antarctic continent. Sail through Paradise Bay, the spectacular Lemaire and Neumayer Channels. In the South Shetland Islands land on Deception, Half Moon and King George Islands, Hannah Point, Palmer Archipelago. Weddell Sea - Emperor Penguins with Oceanwide ExpeditionsThese voyages with Oceanwide Expeditions provide the best opportunity to see emperor penguins without courting bankruptcy. The ship will pass close to Snow Hill Island and provide an ideal opportunity to observe penguins at the ice edge followed by landings at the site of the Nordenskiold expedition.
