ANTARCTIC VOYAGES 2010 - 2011

Antarctica has to be seen to be believed. The ice-covered landscape and penguins may be familiar images on the television screen but the atmosphere of the magnificent snow-covered mountains and enormous, wonderfully sculpted glaciers, and the noise and movement in the penguin colonies cannot be fully conveyed on a small screen. Virtually the only way to visit this last great wilderness is by ice-strengthened expedition ship with emphasis on visits ashore. There may be one or more landings per day and they give everyone, even the not-so-fit, the opportunity to encounter penguins and seals at close quarters and to visit present and abandoned research stations.

Arcturus Expeditions has considerable experience of Antarctica and the cruise ships that sail into the Southern Ocean. Robert Burton started his career studying birds and seals at British research stations and now lectures on cruise ships. Neville Cartwright has escorted Arcturus Expeditions' groups on cruises in recent years. We act as agent for several, selected cruise operators. We make the travel arrangements between your home airport and the points of departure and arrival of the cruise. Sometimes these can be modified to suit special requirements.

The cruises listed here are on comfortable rather than luxurious ships. Once in Antarctic waters, you can expect one or more landings every day by safe Zodiac inflatables. While at sea, you are entertained by expert lecturers. We will give you information on the conditions you are likely to encounter and the clothing and equipment you will need.

For information about the ships see About the Ships.

Further details about the ships, cabins, itineraries and prices can be sent on request.
